I’m going to Syracuse University this fall and I was wondering if anyone has any laptop recommendations for my English/Writing major?

Really…any will do. All you need to really to do is type right? Something with a large screen will probably be best so you don’t get to much eye strain. Also I would recommend getting an after market wireless keyboard since you will be doing a lot of typing and you don’t want to kill the laptops keyboard lol.

I was actually wondering what laptop English students use. I’m torn between Sony Vaio and the MacBook

I’ve never really heard of any English students being required to use a certain type before, though I may be mistaken. I’ve got a couple buddies who are English majors (aspiring writers) and they whatever they have handy. A cheap laptop would certainly be able to get you by since all you’d really need is your favorite word processor. Look for a laptop with a bigger screen (~15") and a comfortable keyboard and you should be set. If you want a macbook or Sony Vaio though, get one. I can personally vouch for the macbook. Very nice machines. I’ve also heard great things about the sony vaios so i wouldn’t throw it out just yet. Look for reviews on the internet about certain models your after. Also see if you can’t find some nearby at a best buy or something and try it out. Since you’re going to be typing alot, the more you can test that keyboard, the better.
