Which looks more impressive?

Winning some awards in a couple of national science competition+summer research or being student counsel, tons of volunteering hour, tons of clubs and leadership positions+many minor awards?

Winning awards in national science competitions and doing summer research shows a passion for science, so if that’s your major, I’m pretty sure that’d be looked at very favorably. Being on student counsel, depending on whether or not you actually did anything or not, can show leadership and…experience in various things, I guess. Volunteering is always nice. Being in a ton of clubs isn’t impressive unless you’re active in all of them and…I don’t think that contribute is the right word, but that’s the only word I can think of.

Ehh. I’m inclined to say that winning national science competitions is more impressive. But the idea of doing things just to look impressive annoys me.

Winning national competitions is rarer and demonstrates a drive to succeed.
Meanwhile, there are far too many student leaders (class prez, class treasurer, founder of hang-gliding club, etc) In most school, probably a fifth of students have some leadership position.

I think the former is certainly more impressive.
