I’m not in top 10% and desperately want to get in UT without being capped…
Now I’m applying for Undergraduate Studies and Social Works
Which major is less competitive to get in? My only goal is to get in UT.

social work is super easy!!
but thats just what i here…
my friend is applying to the school of social work and then going to transfer later if she gets in. is your son applying this year?

Anything in Liberal Arts or Undergraduate Studies will be much easier to get into than the colleges of Business/Communications/Education/etc…

Others have posted here that Geosciences and Education are good colleges to apply to, as long as your application sounds like you are actually interested in geosciences or education.

Actually Education is easy to get into too. Not the easiest, but might actually be easier than Liberal Arts.

I’d say education, geo, comm, lib arts, and social work are probably easiest to get into.

Natural sciences is mid-way easy to get in, since it’s one of the biggest schools but it’s tough to stay in because the workload is heavy and the intro science classes (as a nat sci major) are weed out classes to determine if natural sciences if really for you. A lot of people who start off as science majors on the pre-med track decide it’s not for them and change majors to a different college.

Not Comm! Restricted Admission: College of Communication

Because admission to the College of Communication is so competitive, automatic admission for eligible Texas applicants is restricted to the most qualified applicants.

Admitting Students to Restricted Majors
[Communication | Freshmen | Be a Longhorn](http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/freshmen/admission/majors/communication/index.html)

The following information relates to the admissions process that will be used when admission decisions are made for applicants to summer/fall 2010 and spring 2011:

Top 10% Texas graduates are admitted to Communication based on their relative class rank (beginning with the top 1%, top 2%, top 3%, etc.) until all available spaces for automatic admission are filled. (No more than 75% of the available spaces are filled through automatic admission.)
If 75% of the available Communication spaces are filled before all top 10% applicants are admitted, the remaining top 10% graduates compete with all other applicants for any remaining spaces. Admission decisions about these remaining spaces are based on individual review.
Top 10% graduates who are not admitted to the major of their choice are considered for their second-choice major. All top 10% Texas high school graduates who meet UT Austins application requirements are admitted to the University, although they may not be admitted to their requested major(s).
