I am conflicted as to whether I should apply for CS in CoE or for Math/CS in LAS. I am out-of-state and my primary concern is not only acceptance, but also receiving the University Achievement Scholarship.
My ACT is a 34 (35M) and my GPA is a 4.0 UW and a 4.48 weighted. I used an online calculator for my weighted, but I am not sure if it is right. I am a white male. While my test scores and grades are up to par, I do not have any paid programming experience, which worries me since most accepted students do (or so I hear).
Since CS in CoE is very competitive, even if I got accepted, would UIUC most likely not award me the University Achievement Scholarship? As a result, since Math/CS is a major they are looking to expand, would it be smarter to apply for that major? Thus increasing my chances of receiving the scholarship?
I know that you can choose one first-choice and one second-choice major when applying, but if you get rejected from your first one (CS in CoE) and placed into your second one (Math/CS in LAS), are you still able to receive the scholarship?
