which "major" to put down(common app) - pre-med, journalism, communications...??

ok so im starting the common app and i’m trying to decide what majors to put down for the section “future plans”. i either want to major in journalism or pre-med or political science. im undecided.

but you know some schools dont have “journalism” per se or “pre-med” advising. (for example the LACs which have “biology” and “english” and “political science”, and then there are other schools that have “communications”.) if the common app goes to various schools at once, how can i pick a major that doesn’t exist at every single school on the common app?

what major should i put down, or should i pick “undecided”? i feel like undecided sounds uninspired though so idk.

your help is greatly appreciated CC.

bump me up

If you do a search on “declaring majors” you’ll see that whatever you put is barely glanced at by most schools. Of course they know you can change your mind. Check off what you honestly feel is the best for you at this moment. Undecided is OK. BTW, there is no “premed” major.

I would be very careful NOT to send an application to a school specifying a major that they do not offer. It would seem to them that you don’t know much about the school, did not research your options and are not all that interested in them. Either put “undecided,” or do a custom version of the Common App for each school listing the major you are interested in at that particular school. Here are the instructions for customizing the Common App for different schools:https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/AlternateVersionTechnologyFAQ.pdf

thanks so so so much
