I’m an incoming freshman and planning to go on the pre-haas route. In case that doesn’t go to plan, I’m planning to major in Econ. My ultimate goal post college would be to get an MBA. I’ve been hearing that taking upper div courses for Econ would be favored if you want a Ph.D. in Econ or go on the finance route right after undergrad, but I don’t know if that really applies for an MBA. So in other words, should I take Math 16A or another higher div math course?
If you want to go on to PhD study in economics, here are some recommendations on courses, including math and statistics courses: https://www.econ.berkeley.edu/undergrad/current/preparing-for-grad-school
But typical MBA programs do not appear to be very math intensive, though some calculus may be needed. MFE (financial engineering) programs assume significantly stronger math background.
What math background do you have, and do you like math?
It seems like 16A and perhaps B would be appropriate if you need calculus but don’t plan to go further.
