Which method would be smarter in choosing a major?

A lot of my extracurriculars revolve around my Chinese culture. I even studied abroad in Taiwan for a Summer Chinese Language Camp. My commonapp essay is about my struggles being biracial and learning the language.

Would it be smart to put down my major as Chinese or East Asian Studies? Or should I be honest and put down biochemistry, even if my test scores aren’t the best?

With the application I’m working on now, I have to write an explanation as to why I chose the major. I could definitely build upon my love for my Chinese culture, but I also could write about how much I love science.

I don’t know how I should go about this…

Do whatever you think will help your application best. Once you get in, you can always change your major. Don’t worry about what you declare when going in.
