Which Musical Theater schools are SAT optional?

Baldwin-Wallace makes the SAT and ACT college placement tests optional for the freshman class of 2009-2010</p>

<p>The move puts B-W among a growing number of institutions using other factors to decide if a student makes the admissions cut. SAT and ACT scores still will be accepted, but prospective students who think their scores don’t reflect their high-school grades can leave out the scores. </p>

<p>For students like Kaitlyn Burke, a high-school senior from Albion, N.Y., who arrived in Berea on Thursday for an overnight visit to B-W, a college search without SAT scores would have been heaven. </p>

<p>“I’ve taken AP [advanced placement] classes, I’ve taken college courses,” she said. “My grades are good but my SAT score was just average. It put a lot of stress on me to keep taking and taking the test.” </p>

<p>With about 3,000 undergraduates, B-W is small enough that the admissions staff can take the time to review essays and take a long look at applicants. Picking students based on individual traits is one factor in the school’s decision to go with test-optional admissions, but de-emphasizing testing was a big factor, said Susan Dileno, the school’s vice president of enrollment management.

<p>While not optional, many MT programs do not really consider SAT scores, so it doesn’t matter that they are “average.” Check, though–while CMU places little value on the scores, at Michigan you must first get into the university, and those scores do count in that evaluation. Also, SAT scores may be a factor in scholarship money, much of which is based on academic indicators.</p>

<p>Just to be clear, at U of Michigan, you do not first get into the university. Rather, you go through an academic review in order to be invited to audition. It is like a screening (kinda like if you are in the ballpark academically to be considered for admission). It is not an acceptance to the university.</p>
