which name sounds better: Joslyn or Jalyn

I like Jaelyn

Jaelyn is very pretty, but will likely get misspelled often, too.
Friendly advice, before you change your name for college, read the new novel by Jhumpa Lahiri (author of Interpreter of Maladies) called the Namesake. Actually, everyone read it whether you’re changing your name or not, it’s fantastic

i have to make a decision from now til the 19th…i guess too late to read the book lol.
honestly i dont really like any girls names. but i dont wanna have a guy name either.
i like unique names but not weird, thats y i picked joslyn or jaelyn (unique enuf?) but still they get misspelled. i’m doomed

As long as you are picking new names, why not pick a real good one? - one that will help carry you far. The names you have written are too stylized. They will go out of fashion and sound very dated in another 5 or 10 years.

In picking names for yourself or naming daughters, it’s important that the names not be too cutesy, or you will have trouble being taken seriously. Girls’ names should pass the Secretary of State test: will this name sound good if some day she becomes Secretary of State? Many Biblical names pass this test. Probably the best are Queen names: Elizabeth, Mary, Victoria, Anne, etc.

If you have a name like Bambi you may make a career working at Hooters, but you will never be Secretary of State (or mayor, or a top business exec, etc).

hahaha ur post cracked me up so much

itz true that i need a “formal” name. But i can’t imagine my name w/ “old” names >.<

and iono what names are considered “stylized” either. my last name is Vo it sounds informal anyway so i guess i won’t ever sound good being a Secretary of State.

Some names are old, but other names are not old but timeless. They never go out of style.

Grandmother names (Long out of style): Agnes, Myrtle, Madge, Mildred, Vera, Martha, Phyllis, etc.

Mother names (also mostly out of style): Karen, Kathy, Linda, Susan, Shirley, Sharon, etc.

Current or recent names that will soon be out of style: Tiffany, Chelsea, Brittany, Heather, and all the names you listed in your first post.

But the timeless names appear in every generation: Elizabeth, Amy, Mary, Victoria, etc. They never go out of style. I’m serious. Naming is very important

Elizabeth Vo. It has a very nice ring to it.

I like Joslyn but perhaps you could use the conventional spelling of Jocelyn.

hm…the timeless names u listed sound too noble like queen’s names. Itz a coincidence cuz my full name is the name of a Vietnamese queen.

Oh yea my lil sister’s name is Amy Vo

thanks for all the comments so far =)

So what’s wrong with noble?

Jocelyn…for sure

whats your vietnamese anyway., does it start with ph- cause i think i know what it is.im viet btw

i like joslyn, but I think part of the reason is that Jaelyn feels like a boy’s name to me (because of jalen rose)…that’s how jaelyn i supposed to be pronounced rite? or are the accents different?

to be honest…i’m not sure how to pronounce Jaelyn either.

i didn’t know Jaelyn sounds like another guy name. cuz Jaelyn is for girls while Joslyn is unisex. So which one sounds more “professional”?

Casper, do you mind telling us your real name or are you too embarassed? B/c i think that if your name starts with a certain letter, you should probably find an english name with the same starting letter. just a suggestion. this way you won’t go too far from your birthname.

oh i’m not embarassed to tell u guys my name, but i just wanna keep it confidencial =) it feels weird to say my name in public like this. if any1 curious, just pm me 0,0 My name starts w/ “Ph…” but i dont like any american name that starts w/ P so nvm about that.

My name is a very weird name, its actually sounds like an indian name but its not, so people from Trinidad, or India can pronounce it right on first try but no-one else lol.

I use my middle name instead its Daya, that to is an indian name, but it works for me, even though the song “day light come” by Harry Belafonte a lot. its pronounced Day-ya. Its better then my fitst name. I am not changing it legally i am just going to go by my middle name. Of course mom will always call me Daya.

I actually have another nickname. Matt, got it during Lacrosse Season my freshman year… i love my nickname Matt, its gotten to the point where its Matthew B… lol i actually love my last name, its a plant

Maybe you could spell it as Jocelyn ? Joslyn looks really weird

Most colleges will as you what you want to be called, or a nickname. You could keep your given name for the sake of consistancy in records and then choose any nickname you like.

Why choose a random name? Why did you list those names? How about a name closer to your real name? Or at least starts with /sounds like the first letter? Or some name that holds meaning to you?

I think I also know your real name; I used to know someone by that name…hmm…

But of your list, I like Jaelyn though I see room for incorrect pronunciation and spelling. Why these list of names, in particular, though?

Firstly i really like my initial “P”. but i really hate the american names that start w/ P. i just can’t stand them. So i’m really sad i have to get another letter…

I like unique names that are not very weird. I just happen to like these names and most of my friends and ppl online like them so yea…
