Which neuroscience and bioengineering professors should I meet?

Hi,
I’m an elective student from Pakistan here in Boston for a month. I wanted to use this opportunity to meet up and discuss possibilities with professors in Neuroscience, biological sciences and bioengineering at Harvard.

Who would you think are the best to approach?

Are you a potential undergrad?

If so, they probably won’t care…
If not, you are probably in the wrong forum…
Else, I am completely wrong in my understanding of “elective student” so disregard everything…

Once you are accepted (either December 2011 or April 2012) at Harvard College, that is the time to met the professors, as a prefrosh.

If you are applying to graduate school, then you can google the current profs, ask questions online, then if accepted, met them. For now, there is plenty of online data on the profs research, you just need to put in the time.

Thanks,
No I’m currently a medical student in my fourth year (out of five). I’ll be going for a PhD afterwards. Wanted to meet with some professors in these fields that Harvard students recommend.

I don’t think us undergrad students know enough about the reputation and research of many professors in any specific department to give you any helpful information :(. Someone on CC that you may want to contact though is molliebatmit, who is a current PhD student in the department(?), or some of the older posters who continued onto grad school after college.

On Harvard grad school admissions:

Good luck with everything!

^Current PhD student in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences program (Developmental and Regenerative Biology track) at the medical school. :)

I don’t know that I can really help here, though – there are a lot of professors at Harvard in neuroscience and biological sciences. There are several hundred professors affiliated with my program alone. And some will not be able to meet in person with a prospective student. I would advise the OP to search the faculty research pages and email a few professors whose research he/she finds interesting.

^Reliably right on time with her great advice :)
