I really want to write something unique and quirky for my common application essay that shows my passion for science and my personality, but not in a cliche manner.

1 Because of this, I was planning on describing my personality using elements of the periodic table. I am very knowledgeable about chemistry and it’s my number one passion, so I was thinking this would be interesting. I’m thinking it could work, for example, by saying that my organizational skills are like that of an element in the solid phase, because my room is always tidy and has low entropy. Or how, despite my usual laid-back personality, I can become unstable at times like highly radioactive francium. (That’s just an example, I’d obviously highlight positive qualities)

2 I also love astrology, so I could possibly apply the same topic to zodiac signs. This would be much more simplistic, although less relevant to my major.

3 I was thinking of apply my other love of world culture, and aspiring to be more diverse and knowledgeable of the world around me. I could connect it to my current task of trying to teach myself to speak Arabic.

4 This is probably the safest essay, although it has made a significant impression on my high school experience. Basically, all throughout freshman and sophomore year I was a brilliant student although I was notorious for working slowly in all of my classes, especially math. My math teacher was the only one of my teachers to challenge this. After sophomore year was ending, my math teacher told me that I would not be moving on to AP Calc AB for junior year despite some of the best grades in my trig class. He was firm on his decision, and said that there was nothing I could do to change this. I thought otherwise. I immediately began challenging myself by taking timed practice tests and studying harder. For the next two tests, I finished before everyone else in my class. I continued this throughout the rest of the year, and made it into AP Calc.

Although this may seem insignificant, as a result I was able to realize how fierce the competition is in the world today and that I cannot continue to work slowly. He taught me to challenge myself and be confident in my answers and decisions.

So, which topic is most suitable? Please tell me if any of them are really terrible and should not be considered.

Thanks in advance!
