which one is better?

I have a classmate who just decided that she’s going to apply to Yale early “for the name”, literally X( But she has reallyyy impressive ECs, and her test scores are high. We do almost all the same activities, and even though I put more time into them than she does, she ends up getting elected to all the big-name leadership positions (President, VP, etc) because she’s pretty and manipulative. Ugh. And our test scores are about equal, both in the 2300s and stuff.

I’m trying to write really good and honest essays, but this has been worrying me for days. Do you guys think that the odds are against me, just because of this whole EC thing?

(I’m sorry, I know this probably sounds so ridiculous. But it’s bugging me so much, and I’m just ****ed that she suddenly just decided to apply early because it’s nonbinding, and because Yale is famous. UGH.)

Don’t worry, I’m sure several people are going through this situation (me included, somewhat). Basically what I have heard is that if you, too, are extremely qualified, as is she, then schools like Yale will not pass you up just because somebody else is strong in your class.

It may be frustrating to know she is doing this just because of the name, but if you think she has a good chance, then she must have put in much effort in school and everything to get to this point too, if you know what I mean.

For your and my sake, I really hope they don’t take it against us who have also worked hard, if not harder, in some possibly unfair situations. I would also love to hear some others’ opinions.
