Which one is easier? NYU vs ut Austin

Which one is easier to get in?

major: comp sci

NYU in state?
ut Austin OOS?

thx a lot!

any idea ppl?

NYU? i think

If you go to page 14 of UT-Austin’s common data set, about 4% of undergraduates are out of state.
http://www.utexas.edu/academic/ima/sites/default/files/CDS_UT_Austin2008_09(RevFinal).pdf

Per the CDS, UT-Austin has a 43% overall acceptance rate.

Not sure whether it’s more difficult for OOSers to be accepted, but those are the stats.

NYU has an overall 32% acceptance rate.
NYU’s CDS: <a href=“Research with Human Subjects”>Research with Human Subjects;

so can the OOS admission of a state school possibly be harder than the one of a private?

^Absolutely. Look at the top UC’s, Berkeley and LA. They are much more difficult to get into than all but the top privates.

In this case, though, it’s probably pretty similar, though be aware that UT’s acceptance rate is inflated by the 10% rule.

This is a myth much promoted here. UCLA’s acceptance rate for OOS students is 28% vs. 22% for in state. And all UCs are now trying to attract more OOS students as they badly need the tuition dollars they bring.

Look at the common data set for Texas and call them if it doesn’t answer your question. Many of the publics don’t get many OOS applications because of the cost and lack of financial aid for them. And at schools like the UCs, yield is half of what it is for in state students, so they have to accept many to get the few they want.

Texas, like CA, may well be looking for full pay OOS students this year.

Texas is still in relatively good shape (especially compared to the rest of the country). Their university system receives a ton of money from a fund tied to oil revenues. UNCCH makes it very clear that it has different standards for out of staters. Not so many state schools are that transparent.

The Texas flagships have all kinds of information about their standards and admission in the admission part of their webpages. Check it out.
