Which portions of the SAT matter the MOST for an Engineering student undergrad?

i know writing is very less relevant. How important is reading?
can a good math compensate on less reading score?
also i’m an international applicant not giving SAT ( which is ok with the universities.)

You need to ask each of the universities that you will apply to whether or not you need to take the ACT or SAT general exams, or whether the TOEFL and some SAT Subject Exams are enough. Each university will have its own policy. If SAT Subject Exams (also called SAT II exams) are required, each university will specify which ones are necessary and which ones are suggested.

My son did not do as well on the Critical Reading section. He did fairly well on the Writing and did quite well on the Math.

He’ll be going to UCIrvine.

We think that even though his SATs were quite good (his subject test were excellent) that they are what held him back from getting into top schools. HE only took them once and regrets not taking them again.

He’s thrilled to be going to Irvine, though. So it’s all good.
