<p>Doesn’t necessarily have to be HYPSM level, but what schools with a fairly large amount of prestige are most forgiving about stats when it comes to applications? Of course I know that if you have awful stats you aren’t going to a prestigious school, but what schools are willing to be lenient on stats if you have a good explanation for why they’re low and the rest of your application looks good? For example, I’ve heard U of Chicago focuses a lot on essays and will make exceptions statistically, no clue if that’s true especially since I’m not applying there, but I’m just curious as to what schools are like this.</p>
<p>Depends what you mean by lenient. MIT is known to state a policy where 700+ SAT scores are all treated the same. </p>
<p>Cornell is relatively lax on scores when compared to other ivy league schools. I don’t know whether this is “forgiving,” or simply a reflection that Cornell has a lower SAT average compared to other Ivies. </p>
<p>Almost all prestigious schools have plenty of high stat applicants to choose from, and they’ll only be forgiving for a very, very good reason.</p>

<p>The short answer is none, unless you bring a big hook. The UC’s (Cal & UCLA are prestigious) don’t focus too much on test scores, but gpa is paramount (and its a stat). Certain specialized programs (such as the hotel school at Cornell as more forgiving), but you need the EC’s to back it up.</p>
<p>MIT may state a policy, but the actual fact is that a high percentage of admits have an 800 on Math 2…hmmmm</p>
<p>btw: moving is not a very good ‘explanation’ for C’s; in other words, adcoms will not be more forgiving because it that issue alone.</p>
