Which race to indicate?

I’m a white(-passing), German boy with Turkish roots (father immigrated from Turkey).

According to Common Application, I’m both, White-European and White-Middle East. I’m wondering which race I should indicate? Will saying I’m white-middle east hurt my chances of admission or vice versa?

If your true ethnic identity is White-Middle East, then put that.

It won’t matter

My true ethnic identity is both, white-europe and white-middle east. My father is from turkey, my mom is from Germany

Most white kids don’t differentiate.

It really won’t make a difference in your admission chances.

So admission officers don’t care whether I indicate europe or middle east or both?

No, not really; put both if you’d like.

That question typically applies for US federal documentation. It doesn’t give you extra points. What may give you an advantage is noting that you are from Germany. But again, no guarantees in admission.

Not sure why having a German mom would be an admissions advantage ^

Ok. I was just afraid that american admission officers wouldn’t like to admit a ‘white-middle eastern’ (whatever that means, though) person, out of racist reason (fear of terror etc.)…

That’s an unfounded fear. Colleges tend to be fairly progressive and middle easterners and Muslims are commonplace.

Going off this (potentially outdated) Common App example: http://www.broh.com/images/C3_Download_6_Recommended_Format.pdf

I would check “White (including Middle Eastern)” and then check both “German” and “Other-Middle Eastern.”
