I will be in Cal day where should I go to dinner Gather or Henry’s?
I myself haven’t been to either…was at Angelina’s Louisiana Kitchen last weekend, the place was really nice and the food was awesome (except for the veggie burger, that wasn’t so good). I’ll bet @TheFrenchChef has been to both Henry’s and Gather though, I’ll ping her…
We are going to Angeline’s for Easter lunch/brunch (D can’t take off the whole weekend to come home, so we’re going up there. We really like it (no data point on the veggie burger).
Angelina’s Louisiana Kitchen is completely booked on Saturday.
Go to Skates on the Bay in the Berkeley Marina, or Spenger’s Fish Grotto instead. Or try to get in to Chez Panisse
If you like ethnic cuisines, try Kamado Sushi (Japanese) or Taste of the Himalayas (Indian & Nepalese).
If you visit Kamado Sushi, I recommend omakase.
For sweets, try Masse’s Pastries.
I was at Henry’s last month. Nice quiet atmosphere but the menu is extremely limited. Angeline’s is awesome but a little out of the way unless you are around that part of campus. My one piece of advice is if you go to Angeline’s, Shattuck can get a little sketchy after 10 pm. Please stay in well lite areas and be aware of your surroundings. My son was just accepted at Cal-Regents Mech Eng. and this is the only rule I am going to insist he follows. I went to Cal 30 years ago and as long as you follow common safety rules, you’ll be fine. Congrats and welcome to Bear Territory!
Berkeley Social Club is very popular.
Haven’t been to Henry’s but I like Gather!
I haven’t been to Henry’s in years but Gather is good.
I also would suggest Kiraku, the cafe at Chez Panisse and one of my favorites is Pizzaioli in Oakland.
Spengers is no longer around. https://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/article/Spenger-s-Fish-Grotto-abruptly-closes-after-128-13334549.php
I don’t know if you are a student or parent - if parent you might enjoy the restaurant at The Berkeley City Club (which is a gorgeous Julia Morgan and right next to campus) - cool experience.
Another great, but casual place to eat for lunch is The Butcher’s Son below campus. Really amazing food and good ambiance. For lunch they have a deck out back that is nice.
Is it too late to make lunch/dinner reservation for graduation 5/18 now? I guess most restaurants will be crowded?
