Wasn’t me but always a good idea to shop the closet first, since my favorite threads are the retirement thread and the bag a week thread.
Actually it was @BunsenBurner.
@abasket , I understand. If you look through the different colors of the cotton dress, you will see everything from tennis shoes to gladiator sandals. The first I bought isn’t even sold now, it’s a chili pepper color in the crepe. I wear that with nude gladiator sandals and it looks great! I’d never wear that with flats. The 2nd I bought was the beige cotton. Looks great with flats or I wear with a multicolored roped wedge. Some colors and material just lend themselves to more casual footwear.
This lavender is the crepe and I think can go both ways.
@conmama that is a great dress, love that it comes in many color options and a couple of fabrics as well. I am not sure that cut would be flattering on me, but if they have returns I may have to try it!
I love the idea of silver flats with the lilac dress. I think that if you wanted to dress it up more the heels in #1 are great as well. Wedges are nice too because they give some height with more ankle stability. Look forward to seeing the wedge option in your avatar.
Sorry if my comment was viewed as being unkind or dismissive. It honestly wasn’t meant that way. I really think all the sandals pictured do have a similar look.
I’m going to be no help at all with the footwear but I had to post just to say that I love this dress and I especially love that it comes in a crepe material. I’m tempted to try it!
I like the silver color sandals but I also like the light beige. I don’t wear heels ever so I’m not sure which style would be best. (How’s that for not at all helpful?) Maybe try the nude gladiator sandals you’ve already been wearing with the chili pepper color dress with the lilac dress and see how they work? They might be perfect.
I tried multiple shoes in that ankle strap style to go with my MOG dress. I found that that style isn’t very flattering on most feet and I have thin feet. I also found it hit my ankle bone in a uncomfortable spot. This was regardless of weather I spent $70 or $270.
Everyone has a different sense of style. I would not wear that dress with a what I consider a dressy heeled sandal. I would wear it with slip on sneakers (which some would say no way). Or a pair of flat sandals or a pair of Toms.
Great closet shoe shopping, conmama.
Nine West shoes are like medieval torture devices. Those all looked too uncomfortable to be worn more than once.
If you only wore that first dress 6 evenings (I assume a few hours at a time) without washing, I highly recommend washing it to see what happens before buying another one. 6 wearing a for a casual dress is too little - at any price point. The amount by of space they take up in a landfill is the same, no matter the price.
I was just wondering how you were doing @conmama :-h so I’m glad you checked in.
Now I look terrible in lilac so it’s a color I have no experience in picking a shoe to go with.
Personally, I love this shoe in silver for that dress. https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sam-edelman-greta-sandal-women/5037829?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FSale%2FWomen%2FShoes%2FSandals&fashioncolor=Metallic&color=pewter%20leather
Here’s that shoe with a small heel. https://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sam-edelman-jude-sandal-women/4865306?origin=category-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FSale%2FWomen%2FShoes%2FSandals&fashioncolor=Metallic&color=molten%20gold%20leather
It’s amazing how a silver shoe dresses up an outfit, even without a heel. I heartily recommend those Sam Edelman sandals as they are really comfortable.
I have these gladiator sandals in the pewter and I think they look good with summer dresses. https://www.macys.com/shop/product/b.o.c.-mimi-wedge-sandals?ID=5745352&CategoryID=17570&swatchColor=Pewter#fn=SANDAL_TYPE%3DGladiator%26SIZE%3D%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D43%26ruleId%3D78%26searchPass%3DmatchNone%26slotId%3D3 They are also very comfortable
@3girls3cats, I’m really hoping they come out with more colors next year in the crepe. I don’t care if I only wear it occasionally as it is my “go to” dress when I want to feel great. I’ve taken it on every vacation Ive been and there is not a single wrinkle. I am getting ready to wear the chili pepper color to a wedding.
@deb922 , I love, love those sandals. I wish I could wear flat gladiators, but they don’t look good with my leg and ankle. The only gladiators I own are the nude with high heels. They make my legs look long. I have the longer torso, shorter leg look going. I’m going to Nordstrom’s today so will peek if they have the first couple. They would look nice with lots of dresses I have, I think pewter is a great neutral.
Personally, I think you’re way off base; I did not perceive any such thing, and I’m pretty attuned to that on this site.

I think I saw a woman wearing that dress today while I was on my morning walk, and it totally changed my impression of the dress. Just seeing it online it looked extremely casual to me, almost like a beach cover up, so I couldn’t see wearing it with the heels conmama was thinking about. After seeing someone wearing it, though, I can now totally see how this dress can be accessorized and worn as a semi-formal dress and look terrific. What a great, versatile dress!
Thanks @melvin123 . The crepe is definitely more of a nighttime look, and the cotton more day. Maybe more crepe colors will come back next spring.
I don’t know if you could go all the way to semi-formal with it but the style dependent on the fabric and accessories could go from casual to dressy. It is a very flattering style on lots of body types and probably why it is so popular.
@3girls3cats and any other who liked this dress, it just came out in a very pretty pink in the crepe.
Also, I ended up buying these sandals as they came in wide and gave great reviews. I think I’ll be able to wear them with with tons of things.
Nordstrom does a disservice with the pictures of that dress. It is WAY cuter on than the pictures suggest, even when they show a model!
Cute shoes btw, you should have a lot to go with them. And I’m jealous that people go places where the other people are wearing more than jeans and camo (which seems to be the clothes of choice where I live sadly)
Thanks Deb! Sandals haven’t come yet, but I’m hopeful. As far as camo and jeans, that’s One if Schaefer’s basics. I love that camo dress with must have Jean jacket!
I am a pear-shape size 8 At first I thought it would be too short, but maybe on ma (5 foot 2in) it would be longer. It looks like a great dress for summer travel.
@colorado_mom , I am a size 8 in dresses, pear shape and I took a small. I’m 5’8” and it hits me right about the same as the model. It’s the perfect summer travel dress. It doesn’t wrinkle and you can dress it casually for day and then dress it up in the evening.
