Which SAT Should I Take: The Old One, New One, or Both?

I am rising junior and I am contemplating which path I should take in regards to my college admissions exams. My junior year, I am going to take the SAT, as well as the ACT, and the French SAT subject test. I am wondering which SAT would be to my advantage or whether I should take both. My friends keep telling me that they are going to take both the new and old SAT, but I don’t know what to do. Which SAT should I take if not both? Should I take both the SAT and ACT? I want to take two subject tests because the schools I want to apply to recommend taking at least two. I am definitely going to take the French one since I have been taking French for 8 years now, but what do you suggest my other one should be. I know I am just full of questions, haha  Thanks, any replies or answers will be appreciated. Lastly, are Kaplan SAT books good for self-study?

I can’t speak for Kaplan books for the SAT 1, but when I used Kaplan to study for the SAT II Biology, I found the questions to be a lot more specific than needed. Overall, it wasn’t very useful.

I haven’t used Kaplan either but the best study guides for you is the blue book and the real ACT prep guide.
Have you taken a diagnostic from both tests?
What were your scores?

Thank you all so much. I have taken diagnostic tests for the practice SAT I got 2150 but that can definitely be better and I got a 34 on my practice ACT, I hope to improve these scores.

Nice @IvyCupcake78. Actually you did pretty similar on both test 34=2250. With a 34 or so you are done. On the SAT a 2250 or so same.

@Jr12317 Thank you for your advice it has really helped me out  You don’t think I need any more preparation right , I just need to take practice tests to help maintain my score until the testing test. I have another question, how does the National Merit Scholarship work?

You’re very welcome. Well try to study to increase it only if you want but as I said 34 or so and 2250 or so are enough for every school.

You need to take the PSAT. Not sure what score you need to be a semifinalist or finalist. Probably a 200 or so. Good luck! @IvyCupcake78

@Jr12317 Thank you so much! I appreciate everything

I forgot to post this @IvyCupcake78.

The PSAT score you need to achieve to be considered for National Merit differs based on your state’s average.

@Jr12317 thank you so much

Thank you @normanxi, that is good to know !
