I want to apply to SSP (Summer Science Program) and the application deadline is in March. That means between now and then I have time to take one SAT exam and get a good score.
I gave my SAT I in March or April of this year (can’t remember exactly when) about 3 days after my finals. This was without studying, just to get a feel of what the exam would be like. I got 2080 (600s in CR and Maths both).
Since SSP asks for both the CR and Maths score, should I retake my SAT I in Jan? Or, should I give the SAT Maths (Level 2) Subject Test? Either way I’m expecting good marks as I’ve got a month ahead of me and I’m going to work very hard for this.
What would you suggest?

(NOTE: This has been posted in the SAT forum too)

I have no insight to offer you, but I love that you wrote “I gave my SAT”. So clearly international :p. I got harassed in the States for saying “I wrote my blank”.

Don’t you ‘give’ exams?

EDIT: Also, I wrote- “time to take one SAT exam”.
Is that wrong too?

Here we “take” exams and tests. It sounds pretty dumb to say you “give” an exam, imo.

Ah. Dumb is a harsh word. Where I live, that’s how they say it… If I could edit it I would.

Test scores are important, but they aren’t everything. Do spend the month’s time to focus on writing about what’s important to you. For SSP, I think numbers come second(or 3rd!) to genuine passion.

I’m not sure what you meant by “600s in CR and Maths both.” Solid 600s in CR as an international the first time is very respectable. But either way, if you must retake, take the test that you think you will do your best on. If you think you’ll score better in math on the SAT2, then take it. This is just my opinion, though.

Thanks for your reply!
Being an international, college admissions are much, much more competitive, and so those kinds of scores won’t get me anywhere. I think I’ll just retake SAT I. Since they don’t ask for SAT II, there’s no need for me to be over-ambitious about it.

Oh yea, I just checked. I got 680 Maths, 730 CR. Still not good enough. =(
