I am not sure whether I should go to UC riverside or Santa Monica Community College. Which one would be the easiest to transfer from if these are my target transfer schools:

UCLA
USC
NYU

big reaches:
Yale
Columbia

Thanks for all the help!

And, yes I know I am going to transfer if i go to riverside, because they don’t have my major, or a strength in my alternative major.

USC will be easiest for you followed by UCLA and then NYU, this is a broad generalization as it could change based on your major and other things.

So, if i decide to apply to east coast schools i should go to ucr instead of smc? And, im applying as a Musical Theatre major to UCLA, do you know if it makes much of a difference if you went to a ccc or ucr.

And, coming from smc or ucr, what would you guess my chances of getting into columbia or yale as a theater major?

like was said, smc for usc or ucla. i don’t know exactly about chances for theater majors at yale or nyu, but i can tell it’s very very low. you’re going to have to be phenominal to get in.

I agree with dhl3–SMC for UCLA and USC, UCR for NYU

Unless you go 3.9 or above and have a 2230+ SAT score, it won’t matter which school you apply from for Yale or Columbia–but I’m guessing that UCR would have a slight preference.

P.S. As a theatre major, you would have a better chance at Yale than at Columbia or NYU Gallatin–everyone who’s a theatre major wants to be in NYC.

^^ya NYC’s like theater mecca. But i love Yale’s theater program. I am thinking about doing the summer session next summer and taking acting classes. Maybe I can get one of my profs to write a rec. If i don’t get in, it would be a great experience to go there, if only for the summer.

Sorry, just to understand. So IF i had a 3.9+ & 2230+ SAT score, coming from a CCC, I could POSSIBLY be admitted to yale or columbia. I’m not getting my hopes up by any means, but I figure if I’m going for theater, and I send in a strong app, I might have a shot?

Let me know if I’m wrong. Thanks for all the help. This is helping me form my own opinion… I’m leaning towards smc, and hoping that by a stroke of luck i make it into Yale or UCLA. I can dream, if only for a moment.

Yale is actually the toughest admit in transfer admissions (less than a 3% accept rate). Its virtually impossible to get in as a transfer without a hook. Columbia you have a shot if you have incredibly strong academic credentials.

go to SMC
I know sooooo many people who have transffered to UCLA and USC from there
make sure to join Scholars Program
and you’ll be GUARANTEED for UCLA

you’re better off at SMC if you’re gonna transfer to UC’s

im sorry if this is a stupid question, but what do you mean by a hook?

like being a celebrity, winning the nobel prize, curing a disease?

cause… then it is impossible, for me. All I can do is be me, you know? And, im just saying this with honesty, I don’t mean to sound rude if i do.
