Which school name is spelled wrong the most often on CC?

I see various school names misspelled from time-to-time on CC, but non more so than Caltech. I see Cal Tech often, CalTech sometimes, and some Cal tech. The proper spelling is Caltech.

What other schools are often misspelled on CC?

RPI. I never even try to spell it I go to their website and copy paste.

On the prep school forum, “Thacher” is often misspelled as “Thatcher.”

On the Michigan forum, there has been debate as to when and why U-Mich started appearing. It’s always been U-M for most of us.

Binghampton.

Johns Hopkins.

Carleton.

Stanford, frequently offered as Stantford, Standford, Stafford, etc.

I did see “Oxfrod” once. While not a common one, it made me chuckle to think that there are probably quite a few Cambridge students who call it “Oxfraud” in whispered jokes.

Johns Hopkins
Case Western Reserve U (some word usually left out)
Allegheny College
University at Buffalo
Wesleyan College
Wellesley College
Sweet Briar College

Berklee (often spelled Berkeley)

Juilliard

Maybe “John Hopkins” isn’t so wrong:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/01/AR2010040102179.html

Not a misspelling, but non-Wisconsinites often incorrectly refer to UW-Madison (or UW) as UW-M. UW-M actually refers to UW-Milwaukee.

I see Colombia from time to time. And Emery.

Re “University at Buffalo”. The branding for that institution has changed so frequently during my lifetime that I no longer bother to pay attention. It WAS the University of Buffalo for a fair bit of history. It was SUNYAB for a good long while. Now it is University at Buffalo, but sometimes State University of New York University at Buffalo (yccch!), presumably to distinguish it from State University of New York at Buffalo State (another abomination).

Thornton School of Music at USC

U. of Cincinnati

(Gosh, I always thought Caltech was spelled “California Institute of Technology”–now I know.)

Yale

The Ohio State University

Self correct

UCLA

“Brandies” for Brandeis is one of the most common mistakes, possibly due to AutoCorrect.

Denison. I have seen plenty of NN and SS combinations.
