Which school should I use as a comparison?

I want to appeal for more aid from school C. Schools A and B have both given me more aid. A gave me more aid than did B, but the cost of attendance for B is lower because B is the cheaper school overall.

Which school should I use as a comparison to get the most out of school C?

It is unlikely that school C will move if it does not consider schools A and B peer schools. Are they?

@galax

Are these colleges peer schools?

Is this merit or need based aid?

Do any of these schools guarantee to meet full need for all?

Do any use the Profile…because a school using the Profile isn’t really going to care what a school that only uses the FAFSA gave you?

Yes, they’re all peer schools.

@thumper1 Only school B gave me merit aid.
All of them use the Profile too. How do I check if they guarantee to meet full need?

You look on their website or google “does name of college meet full need”

Comparing merit to need based isn’t going to help you at all…if one school gave you need based aid…and another gave you merit…the schools won’t compare apples to oranges.

You are being a bit hard to help. Some of us know colleges that will or won’t look at their financial aid offers. If you gave the college names, it would,be a LOT easier to help you.

For example…U of San Diego and Santa Clara are peer schools. U of San Diego absolutely will NOT reconsider financial aid offers they give. Period.

So…you may find that your college of choice is one of those.

If School B cost less than School A, then school A is not going to give you additional money

If one school gave you merit money, and the other schools gave you need based aid, you have no basis for an appeal

It has to be merit vs merit
or need based aid vs need based aid

Also look at the school’s policy for financial aid appeals/financial reviews. Some schools will tell you their process for an appeal or review.
