<p>Let’s not argue if rankings determine a good school alright? This can actually be a useful thread for some looking at colleges. Let’s just say the OP wanted people to talk about colleges that are more popular with this generation and leave it at that okay?</p>
<p>Now, for me that would be JHU’s food which just really isn’t to my taste. NYU’s campus (lack of). And Cornell’s remoteness. All of which would appeal to some other person, but not me. =P</p>
<p>Dartmouth seems to be REALLY isolated…probably more than Cornell. And drinking seems to be big there. So, if you’re not into that…</p>
<p>Schools in the 60s and even 100s are PLENTY popular.</p>
<p>i was born and raised in arkansas. you couldn’t pay me enough to go to college here. definately heading for the northeast.</p>

the “top 50 schools” are out of my league, so i don’t waste my time researching them.</p>
<p>Top 50 depends on what ranking. If you say US News top 50, I wouldn’t agree, as I don’t think 10-20 of those schools belong in there due to their low peer assessment score (the general reputation of the school isn’t high). Top 50 in accepted applicants ACT/SAT scores, I wouldn’t agree there, as admissions and quality of instruction at the institution don’t coexist.</p>
<p>Dartmouth actually isn’t nearly as isolated as its perceived. The local area has about 75,000 people. </p>
<p>My list of schools I would NEVER go to in the top 50 are: Chicago and NYU.</p>
<p>What a ridiculous thread. Let’s give some examples of why.</p>
<p>Student A loves learning, hates being around drunks and high people, wants small class sizes and a majority of other students who have the same love of learning as she does. She might think these colleges suck:</p>

Wisconsin
Colorado</p>
<p>She might love these colleges:</p>
<p>Chicago
Swarthmore
Reed</p>
<p>Student B loves to party. She’s a decent student, but not too serious about learning. She comes from a small town so she wants to just blend in for once. She prefers lectures and classes where she can simply disappear or not even come to class if she wants. She might think these colleges suck:</p>

<p>And love these colleges:</p>

<p>You see? There’s no answer. It’s all about what any particular person wants in a college.</p>

<p>I love cold weather, so I don’t mind going to Cornell…</p>
<p>Someone may want to be in a city environment with lots of activities around and not drink every weekend so he/she may hate Dartmouth and love NYU, Columbia, etc.</p>

<p>Try rephrasing it. Decide what you wouldn’t like about a school and then ask something like this: Which schools with great reputations have the worst social atmosphere?</p>
<p>That might be useful to you. “Sucks” is not useful.</p>
