Which School Will Be the Next Rapid Riser?

It’s interesting how most schools’ rankings or general perceptions stay somewhat similar throughout the years, but there’s always one or two outliers at a time that rise well above their current rank. I believe right now that is Northeastern(duh) and BU. One could argue Chicago but they were still a top school before as well. So, any predictions on what non-top 50 schools might be the next riser?

I’ve got money on Alabama. I don’t think they’ll be a national powerhouse anytime soon but I think they could take Tennessee’s place as the best southern state school after UGA. They’ve gotten a lot of top students recently through their automatic merit scholarships and I think that’s going to increase as long as they don’t keep lowering the award amounts.

It took BU and NE several decades to get to where they’re now, so it’s hard to call them “rapid risers.” Perhaps in relation to vast others. When I think of a possible “rapid riser,” I think maybe Minerva?

There’s a school called Minerva? LOL. Off to google…

Ok, googled. Minerva is in SF but I’d never heard of it (I live in the Bay Area). Sounds intriguing, though.

While it is located in S.F., its classes are held all over the world, although actual instructions are held online. My son’s close friend actually transferred from a top university to Minerva recently.

I thought Minerva was really a glorified four-year summer camps for kids from very rich families when I first heard of its inception. Lol. Would be interested to hear your son’s friend’s feedback @TiggerDad

You maybe right @makemesmart. It’s currently too experimental to know how this thing will fly. They were featured in a Harvard Magazine a while back as noteworthy experimental school since many Harvard faculty, apparently, were involved in designing and I believe still are involved in terms of not only administering but as faculty.

@YaleMomOf7 Is U Tennessee considered higher than U Florida? Honestly asking–enjoyed Knoxville campus many years at Destination Imagination Global Finals, but never got a read on their academics. Nice people there, for sure!

@bobo44. No. it’s not.

@bobo44 No, it’s generally considered that UF is on par with Texas and is slightly higher than UGA, but below UVA, UNC, and W&M. Tennessee would go below UGA and a bit above Bama, Ole Miss and UofSC. Well, with my colleagues and I in NYC at least. Depending on where you are and what you consider ‘higher’ YMMV. Great school though; my DD is currently a prospie for class of '23.
