Which school would you choose: Elon or Davidson?

Having a little debate with someone haha

Davidson for sure. Wouldn’t really choose a LAC normally but I’d make an exception given the choice of the two.

Depends on whats important to you in your educational experience. Davidson has the prestige and the small classes with the faculty mentoring that you’d expect at a LAC. But if that’s not important to you, then Elon may be a better choice.

I think much depends upon your stats, ec’s etc… as to which would be a better fit (ie depends on which school will accept you). I have visited both schools. Elon is up and coming and has many great things going on but I would chose Davidson over Elon. Davidson, in my opinion, is a stronger school.

Elon is small as well, so I don’t know what M’s mom is suggesting.

I would clearly pick Elon over Davidson for Communications and Media Studies as that is one of their strongest majors. They have a very good placement record for graduates in major media outlets (NYTimes, NBC, CNN etc.) State of the art facilities.

Davidson has a “no debt for students” policy, so they give you generous grants for financial aid.

Davidson is clearly the more prestigious and more rigorous school.

So it all depends on what your goals and ambitions and interests and financial considerations are.

Elon has over 5,000 undergrads and around 700 grad students. Davidson has less than 2,000 undergrads. Davidson is small.

I’m not suggesting anything except that if OP wants small, the definition of ‘small’ should be clear in his or her mind.

The term “small” is indeed subjective and relative. Elon has grown, according to its own website, from under 2,000 students to now 5,000 as its national profile has grown. But the campus size is roughly about the same as Davidson. Davidson is in a small town on a lake just outside Charlotte, a large city. Elon is in a small town about an hour outside of Raleigh.

To me, there isn’t much difference in the schools on the basis of size. There is a difference in the selectivity of the schools, though Elon is rising rapidly. I believe Davidson was founded as a Presbyterian school. Elon was founded by the Disciples of Christ.
