Which schools do I fit?

Hello,
Im a junior and high school, my sat is 2220 (780-math,720-reading,720-writing), my gpa is 4.0 unweighted and 4.9 weighted not including this year, and I am ranked 9 out of 700 in my class. I am really interested in architecture and want to apply to the following schools:
-Cornell
-Cooper Union
-RISD
-Pratt
-Cal-poly SLO
-Umiami
I so far have 6 pieces for my portfolio. I’ve take and am taking AP:Human, world, art history, art portfolio, us history, calc ab, and lang and comp.

I am in NHS, NEHS, and Founded a club called Music Appreciation Club.
I have attended two summer architecture programs, one at Umiami, and the other at Kansas University through Duke TIP.

Can anyone please give me an idea which schools I’m a match or reach for, it would be much appreciated!

You listed all B.Arch schools, is that degree what you are going for or would you also be interested in some BA Arch schools?

Could you post your portfolio? It can help with advice and recommendations, especially for architecture schools because all of these schools place so much emphasis on your portfolio. Right away I can tell you that Cornell will be difficult (simply because of the program, your scores and GPA will help with the school) and that Cooper Union is a total toss up depending on your home test. RISD and Pratt will both be looking for a very solid portfolio. You should be fine at Cal Poly and Miami (The Florida one I assume?)

Scores and ECs look fine. As others have mentioned, your portfolio is extremely important.

Yes right now I’m just looking at B.arch schools but I’m willing to look at others if you have any suggestions.
Here’s a link to my portfolio. I don’t have pictures, however, for three of my other works which I think are some of the strongest.

What attracts you to architecture? Depending on what you like it can give a better idea as to what programs might fit well with you.

As to your portfolio, the architectural model looks good but you’ll want to strengthen your technical drawing skills, as well as expand to show some more creativity with your design work. What kind of art experience do you have?

I think it would be better if you add some landscapes and perspective drawings based on observations

Sent from my SGH-T989 using CC

Observational drawings are always good. What portfolio are you doing for AP Studio?

You’ll want to focus much more intensely on your portfolio for architecture. Don’t be fooled, architecture is portfolio based, schools look for the same skill set present in students who apply for art and design in architecture. The skill set required to be an engineer isnt the one required to be an architect. From my experience, most architecture students I’ve talked to actually came from art magnet highschools or at least had a strong background in art and design. You really need to be basically solid in math and science but exceptional in art and design to get into a lot of the schools you listed (cooper, risd, pratt). For cornell I’m not sure since the Ivy application process is generally more geared towards academic background than conceptual and technical artistic abilities.

Cornell is the best of both worlds sadly, I’m applying there now. They want very very solid academics, however they also require an interview and a 15 to 20-piece portfolio for admission, with observational drawing required. The alumni I spoke with said that the program takes design and art very seriously, only slightly less than schools like Cooper or RISD

listing your stats doesn’t really help which schools you should go.

you should check out: [Archinect | Connecting Architects Since 1997](http://www.archinect.com) to kind of get a better understanding since you’ll be immersed in a community with like-minded people.

Architecture is an expansive field and all architecture schools are different. It depends on what you want as an architect. Like everyone said, you listed all B.arch program and my opinion of a B.arch person is all about being a technical architect. You’ll be versed in knowing construction documents and the knowledge to really make the project built.

However, a B.A degree in architecture will be more research, theoretical based. you’re still designing, but you’ll be challenged and asked what a design should do and what the design should be. I know some people can make some arguments that this kind of pedagogy is in B.arch, but this has been my perception since I started 5 years ago of deciding between SLO vs. UC BERK

You should look into Uva, and CMU
