Which schools does Sony recruit at?

Hey,

I was wondering what types of schools sony recruits at. I’ve been looking at the recruiting lists of major schools in the EE/CE department like UWashington, USC, Umich, and sony didn’t appear on any of their lists unlike microsoft and stuff, so does anyone know where they recruit at, especially thier computer department.

Yeah, this is a bit different from my last thread which asked about BME, but I decided that since computers are booming, I might be in higher demand as a patent lawyer in the computer rather than BME industry (although BME is certainly going to boom quite a bit). I still have time to decide, and I may change my plans, but I’m just wondering where I could get recruited by Sony, because I’ve somehow always had a fascination for their stuff, and I think I would enjoy working there should I not get into patent law.

Presumably any decent engineering schools?

You shouldn’t pick colleges because of the companies that recruit there. If you are accepted to a college who has “top” engineering companies recruiting on campus, how do you know if you’ll stick with engineering? Most college students change their major at least once. Even if you do stick with engineering, will you even want to apply to Sony four years from now? If you do feel like applying, will you be granted an interview? Will you get the job? “I would like” is a good for dreams and ideals, but reality doesn’t always match such dreams.

In other words, pick an engineering school that will help you develop a passion for the profession. That way, when you graduate, you won’t have wasted your time on a degree leading to a profession you won’t want to be involved in.

well why wouldn’t it be smart to apply to a college where top companies recruit at? Afterall, that opens up more job oppurtunities, higher salaries, etc. Its also a testament to how good the quality of teaching is at the school, which could help me develop a passion for it. I’m not saying that what you are saying is incorrect, but I’m just wondering why you say that.

Also, I won’t JUST pick a school based on a certain company that recruits there, but more or less what I was trying to gain by posting here was to see what caliber of colleges I should be able to get into to have a chance at getting a job from a certain company. For example, not all companies will recruit at every school, so I need to know what schools the companies I want to recruit at. Since I haven’t seen sony listed on a single recruiting site, I was wondering if people can give me examples of where they recruit at so at least I have some idea.

EDIT: Well to put it very simply, mostly what I want to do is make sure that I can get a job at Sony from a non MCS-type school. Right now I’m looking at University of Washington, which is really strong (T15) at CS and CE, so I was wondering if going to this type of school can still land me a job there.

But I definitely see your point CI.

university of japan
