Which schools have automatic secondaries where we can go ahead and send out our secondary right after we have submitted the AMCAS primary without receiving an email notice from them first? The same question for TMDSAS schools (in particular, is UTSW such a school?)

I am not talking about un-screen schools. Rather, I am talking about schools which not only unscreen their applicants for the secondaries, but also do not bother to send the applicants an email to invite the applicants to do their secondary - they somehow expect you to go to their web site to do it without notifying you (because they assume you can find this info from either the school’s web site or SDN or this CC forum :)). Is there such a school?

I remember somemom once mentioned a case where the school may get mad at you if you submit their secondary before you are invited to do so. I think we all do not want to run into this.

I would consider Chicago (and possibly Columbia and Dartmouth also) as a school that sends out their secondary almost on the next day. But at least it sends out a secondary invite email. BTW, I heard that school is also very effecient in their rejecting process.

We may call Chicogo a next-day, “unscreened secondary” school, and may call the schools (that I try to find out) super-fast (< 1 second), “unscreened secondary” schools. They are quite similar for all practical purposes, but not exactly the same. The difference is the latter schools even do not bother to send you an email about the secondary.

If they do not bother to send you an email about the secondary, then how you know that you got secondary? D. applied to 7 schools, she said that in-state send secondary to everybody in state. We got nothing else, but U of Chicago.

I think you can possibly find it out by looking at each school’s web site.
I asked this question because an applicant may overlook something and applies even before she or he is allowed to do so.

Is this only for Texas? D. did not apply in Texas, only AMCAS. She is waiting for some kind of feedback to proceed. Does she need to follow some procedure to actually find out if she got secondary? Sorry, I am confused.

MiamiDAP, Another possibility is they have not done something yet :)

An applicant (“noshie”) who is applying to texas schools this cycle posted the following message on sdn. Replacing TCOM with your school name, and TMDSAS with AMCAS, you will get a glimpse of the big picture on how these promary/secondary things work, if AMCAS is anything similar to TMDSAS. This applicant has been very helpful to other applicants. She should put her activities on sdn as a good volunteer work in her applicatioin. It appears she is a re-applicant, having dealt with the application process maybe more than twice. If I were an adcom, I would definitely give her some bonus points, considering how persistent she has been – She took mcat many many times, and climbed up from a low 16 little by little, each time increasing her scores maybe by a couple of points. Bravo for her fighting spirit! How many premeds have such an optimistic attitude over such a long time? Wish her a good luck this time. (I think she will suceed with her 29 or 30(?) mcat this time.)

She submitted her primary on 5/13, and TMDSAS verified (or transmitted?) hers on 6/1, but the school decided to download the verified application from TMDSAS several weeks later.

"Ok, I think I have figured out what is going on here…

TCOM said that they have not even downloaded primary applications from TMDSAS yet. So although TMDSAS says that it has sent your primary to the schools, the schools decide when they want to pull the applications, and they will not be doing this for a few weeks. I’m thinking that all of the schools are the same way…

Admissions told me that everyone will get an email when the primary comes in. You can still do the secondary now and they will match it with your primary when they download it. You can also send any other materials (LORs or anything else) now and they will keep it and then match it with your primary. The online status will not say they have anything from you until they match your primary with your secondary.

I would say that everyone should just be patient and not call about their statuses, the received emails will go out in a few weeks when they download the primary."

Well, nothing we can do but wait. D. did not apply in Texas. Mostly the concern is for one in-state school, where D. feels she has a good chance. Thanks for reassurances.

Oh, no, her (noshie’s) last score is a 27 instead of 29! But she had two publications, and had like 2 years of clinical research experiences – The last one was with UT-SW, where she got a publication. All these should give her some boost.
