Bulldog days was just officially canceled
@twokids2go The admitted students day is still showing in their website and it looks like you can still register for it. Do you know if they have any plans to shut down the campus? This is one of my D’s top choices but she really wants to revisit it before she makes a decision and we are from New England so it’s a plane ride away for us.
Just heard that University of Maryland canceled their grad school visit days today. This is very disappointing especially since they have nothing to replace it. No e-meeting with professors, no connecting you with students, etc.
How do you know this?
Yale posted it: “Bulldog Days 2020 has been cancelled. This is in response to concerns regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and in keeping with guidance that Yale has provided in consultation with experts from the Yale Schools of Public Health, Medicine, and Nursing; Yale-New Haven Hospital; and local, state, and federal governments.”

San Diego State sent an email that they’ve canceled Explore SDSU, expressing disappointment but trying to be cautious.
Duke just canceled in person classes.
Rutgers and College of Charleston just announced moving to distance learning after spring break through end of March. I’m going to assume our April visits are in jeopardy.
@CTCape I thought CoC was doing one day of online classes (Thursday) to test how it would work, and back to normal on Friday?

Oh I hope you’re right and that ds misunderstood!
SDSU just canceled their “Explore SDSU” event.
eta: Oops, just saw this was already mentioned above.
No word yet on Clemson, VT or Bentley. Hoping they do not cancel. While someone on this thread mentioned that “for generations” people have been going to college without going to admitted student days, these days we pay a king’s ransom compared to generations ago so it would be nice to see what we are going into debt for.
Colleges should put decisions off until June 1 or July to buy time and then try to fit in admitted students day.
At the very least I do not see why one can’t visit and walk the campus even if they are cancelled - this is not airborne and we are not under a China-like restriction against travelling.

It’s a good point about college costs these days. But if the campuses are deserted because everything has gone online, is there any significant benefit over just doing a virtual tour?
Duke is sending home all students for the remainder of the semester.
Quick question for folks in schools that have sent kids home for the rest of the semester IE Duke form POST #55, I assume they will be refunding a portion of room and board?
@Momtofourkids I agree that decision day should be moved to a future date past 5/1 to allow for admitted student days. We have three colleges we didn’t visit because we didn’t want to waste time or money if DD doesn’t get in. If she does get in, with the price tags they come with, we definitely want to see them before making a decision.
No clue about refunds
@MAmom111 - right now they have just canceled events in March. Unfortunately, we were going for an interview for the Honor Scholars program and preview day (rather than admitted students day as that conflicted with another accepted school). According to their website, it looks like they are using the two days prior to Spring Break to test moving classes online “should that be needed”. I would suggest holding off on flights or ensuring you can get a refund/change if necessary. I bought the cheapest tickets (no refunds/ no changes) and now I’m out $650.
