Which schools have cancelled the admitted students days or preview days. in 2020

@twokids2go Check your airline’s website. Just yesterday, Delta, American and United(?) announced they will waive change fees on existing flights (not just those ticketed in March), for travel thru April.

Thank you @momzilla2D! I had looked on the day the college called me to cancel and at that time there was nothing I could do. I called this morning and got the credit to my account.

We were planning on visiting UPenn for Quaker Days. While I completely understand why they’ve canceled the event, I’m a bit disappointed that they’re not offering any opportunity for interaction/Q&A with faculty - or even current students. Are any other schools offering this kind of thing? I guess it’s probably tough to set up on short notice…

SDSU just canceled its Weber Honors College Prospective Students Reception. Not a big surprise after “Explore SDSU” was canceled yesterday. (These events were both originally scheduled for March 21)

Emory University has cancelled their Scholars Weekend. All interviews are shifting to online interviews with online presentations of student life, etc. Really disappointing for the student invited and the University. Could have swayed my child to Emory but I doubt 3 days of video presentations will compete with places where we’ve done an actual visit.

I have not see any school post about this yet, but I will be shocked if they do not. I think at this time they are all scrambling to manage the migration to online learning, and will tackle this next challenge in time. (I do not have any inside info–just speculating.)

@m0m2024 see my post #24 re what LMU is doing - they said they will have smaller gatherings where those things could happen but they’ve not sent out details yet. It may end up going online though they said it would be in person in their email last week.

I thought I’d add my comment here. My DD also was looking forward to visiting schools after admission to finalize the decision. I also worry about the kids who hold jobs such as tour guides-it is a real source of income. What about Facebook live tours? Basically the regular tour guides could go out on their regular routes -they could even go in pairs so one could video and the other could walk. If you follow along live you could ask questions as you go? I feel like this needs almost no “set up time”. You would use the kids that normally work and all these people have access to Facebook. Could also set up “chat rooms” with students. So much of this decision comes down to conversations with students-see if they are like you-although better in person I think would be good/and more off the cuff than the video tours they have online.

CU Boulder has just moved to online classes only through the end of the semester. Not sure how tours/ admitted students days will be handled yet.

The University of San Diego has cancelled admitted students merit overnight, but unlike other colleges I applied to, they were thankfully nice enough to keep an extended day tour for the students on that same day in compensation.

@twinmommy, thanks for sharing the news about Florida. I would assume this will impact Admitted Student Days. Any news? I don’t quite understand cancelling university classes when public schools will still be open following Spring break. But maybe it’s just not as feasible…?

I know in the scheme of life this is not a big thing, but I feel for the HS seniors if they end up cancelling prom, Grad Bash, graduation, etc. My D and I have been planning for a year to visit admitted colleges this April - I couldn’t justify the cost of visiting the high reach schools on her list. It makes me sad we likely won’t have that opportunity.

I don’t think COVID-19 is going away so I hope this doesn’t throw a wrench in their college freshman year too.

Some colleges are continuing to pay college-employed students even if they cannot physically do their jobs.

NYU has said “we will be providing opportunities for virtual campus visits and dialogue with admissions staff.”. No mention of faculty or departments.

Tulane has cancelled its honors weekend March 15-16 and the other later in March

Notre Dame has canceled its Admitted Student Days.
“As always, our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our community - students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
With this as our guiding principle, we have made the decision to cancel the upcoming Admitted Student Days events, scheduled for March 29-30; April 5-6; and April 19-20; as well as all information sessions, tours, and day hosts until further notice.”
.

Tulane has canceled it s upcoming Honors weekend.
“Per CDC guidelines and the City of New Orleans’ recommendations, we unfortunately must cancel the upcoming Honors Weekend in its current format and migrate all scheduled programming for the event online. We will have more information on the virtual Honors Weekend Event soon.”

UNC extended spring break & then going to online classes only

UNC, URI. and U Del all cancelling accepted students days. I also checked with the United since I have a trip with daughter and they are waiving change fees for any travel planned between March 9th and April 30th. You have 1 year from original ticket booking date to travel without any fees.

UMichigan…
“All U-M events and events organized by others on our campus that would convene 100 people or more are cancelled from Thursday, March 12 until at least April 21. At this time, Information Sessions and Campus Day sessions for admitted students are cancelled through Saturday, March 21, and guests who have registered for these events will be notified by email.
