One issue with what colleges will do at a later date is for some if not most schools there may not be tour guides on campus to give even Facebook live tours. You will also run into finals as well. I just cancelled some flights and will get a refund but so far Hilton Hotels will not allow a refund. Hopefully that will change.
@NJdad07090 I received an email from Hilton this am that you can change or cancel even non-cancellable reservations scheduled for arrival prior to April 30. Not sure if this helps you.
Here is a recent list of colleges closing and those still available for tours

Hi, I’m a student in the same position. I don’t really know what to do either as I’m hearing back from 7 more schools by April 1st, and I haven’t visited 4 of the 7 (and none of those 4 are in my state). I’m doing a lot of virtual tours online, and reaching out to current students of the schools and discussing my questions with them. Besides that, I don’t really know what to do. I’m hoping that some schools will postpone the May 1st deposit date due to situation but I don’t know if that will happen.
My D’s school announced that they will be doing a lot of online /video presentations. They also do live chats (always have, but they’ll step those up too). If the schools have admitted student and parents social media pages, follow them and join. Lots of good information is usually shared there.
Look at youtube videos for each school. Usually you can see everything from campus tours, to dorms, to student interviews about all kinds of things.
Use CC as a resource too. Many schools have their own subforums and you can ask questions there.
It’s not ideal for sure…
I’ve found reading the colleges’ student newspapers online helpful. I’ve learned about things like overburdened mental health services, crime reports, arts events, etc. It gives you some sense of the campus zeitgeist.
@gotham_mom Student newspapers in many cases tend to emphasize the negative about a college.
No news is good news.
@TomSrOfBoston Admitted student events, campus tours, info sessions, etc. emphasize the positive. Reading the newspapers gives another perspective and fodder for questions for current students and faculty. JMO
Searching You Tube for student videos of ‘day in the life’ or ‘dorm tour’ etc. can provide a student perspective. It’s interesting to see the different activities and clubs on campus.
FSU has cancelled all tours through April 5.
My son and I were planning to do a tour of colleges where he’s been accepted this month and next month. The Coronavirus situation has caused many of the colleges/universities to cancel their Admitted Students events. How are other parents/students thinking through how to evaluate schools without actually visiting them? To be clear, we have attended a number of other events closer to home over the past few months, thank goodness, but there’s a real possibility we will not get to visit schools further away that require more than a few hours of travel. Any ideas?
