Which schools look like a match?

Hello all!
I am 16/m/rising senior with a GPA of 3.19. I know this may seem low, but i have or am taking 5 AP courses throughout my 4 years and was on an upward trend. I finished with a 3.89 GPA Junior year which actually brought my overall to what it is now. I scored a 1770 on my SAT, (1260 reading/math) and a 30 on my ACT. I have a few extra-curriculars such as being the treasurer for my schools FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and being a part of several volunteer opportunities as well as my schools key club. I am looking to major in computer science or software engineering (or something similar) but may switch majors depending on what feels right.

I am located in a very tough, competitive Northern Virginia public school. I am looking to go to school anywhere in the mid-Atlantic region; in-state isn’t a MUST, but would be nice! I do like North Carolina schools and have a lot of family there so those are options as well! Thank you very much!

Schools to Consider: George Mason, High Point, NYU POLY, and Towson.

Any others in Virginia…?

The big NC schools like UNC and NC State are really hard to get into as an out of state. 10% of NC State students are OOS and 18% at UNC. Although anything engineering at NC State is really hard to get into, and your GPA will likely hinder you. Maybe JMU?

Is VT a complete stretch?

That I’m unsure of. Their average SAT score is ~1800 but your ACT score is equivalent to a ~1980 so that should be fine, I just don’t know about your GPA + VT, as no one I know from North Carolina has gone there, sorry  I would have to assume though that since you want to do engineering, and VT is a big engineering school, your GPA will hurt your chances there.

ugh. Thanks though. I may be able to get in-state in north carolina because my mom owns and pays property tax on a house in Raleigh. If so, Would UNC or NCST be a stretch as well?

Hampden-Sydney is a great school that you’d match with, expensive though.

I think you’d have a good shot at JMU as well

Hampden-Sydney is a private boys school, correct? I’m looking more for a public co-ed school.

University of Delaware

If YOUR permanent address for the past year hasn’t been in NC, I doubt you’ll be getting in-state tuition. Even if, I would say 60% for NC State and a 30% chance for UNC because of your GPA. Out of state you’d probably be cutting those by half or more.

A Northern Virgini-an with 1260 SAT ? You are in at Virginia Tech. VT just loves in-state people.

NCSU is a match.
You will definitely get into University of Delaware.

Thanks all. I like NC state. I’ll look into Delaware.

Check on Clemson site and see how you stack up as OOS student. You didn’t say if money is an issue…

What about Old Dominion University?

Money isn’t really an issue, and I’m not fond of old dominion. I don’t mind going out of state!

Any other ideas?
