Which Schools Require Prescreens?

@duxellen I will share one Syracuse experience. I will preface by saying I really enjoyed my visit to Syracuse, and was very impressed with Ralph Zito and the kids I met. Syracuse was originally in my D’s top 5 schools and because of that, she wanted to audition on campus. She was hoping to get a certain faculty member for her dance call that she had worked with at a Summer program. He was largely the reason she was even interested in Syracuse. Instead she was in a dance call with another faculty member and he was very abrasive and rude, barking orders at the kids and yelling at them. We all know how hard it can be to fit information on a resume, and she thought she had included all the most relavent information about her education, training, and performance history. He pretty much told her she was stupid for not including some cute special skill (ex. Singing a high C while doing an aerial) and that her resume wasn’t going to catch anyone’s attention. She is currently in a great MT program with a guy who was in her same Syracuse dance call, and who had a similar experience. Both kids left that audition feeling terrible, and funny enough, both were shocked when they were accepted into the program. In the end, Syracuse was not even one of the final schools my D ended up deciding between because the audition experience was so negative for her. I’m just sharing this with you so that you can prepare your child, and make sure they put some “quirky” skill on their resume and be able to share it if called upon to do so in the audition.
