Which schools require supplements to the PROFILE application? What info do they want?

I am reading/rereading some older threads, trying to make sense of the financial aid process.

I get that some schools accept just the FAFSA to determine need/FA, but many (and I think a good number of the schools on our current list) require the PROFILE. I understand that some of those will then want a supplemental application, beyond the Profile, and they they may ask for some very detailed info.

What schools require this supplemental application, and what is the additonal information they are looking for?

There is no standardized supplemental application. It will vary from school to school.

You can expect that if your finances are fairly straightforward, the questions you’re asked will be straightforward also. If your finances are more complex, you can expect a more detailed inquiry.

There are supplemental questions that various schools ask, like make and models of vehicles you own, are they leased, does the student own a car…how much do you owe on your car loans and purchase price.

You will not know the supplemental questions until you register for the CSS PROFILE, select the schools, and then pay the fee. The supplemental questions usually show up at the end of the PROFILE questions.

Buy “Paying For College without Going Broke” Princeton Review by Kalman Chany.
He usually goes over the PROFILE questions as well as the FAFSA questions.
The supplemental questions will not be listed as every school is different.

The CSS PROFILE will ask you the purchase price of your house, the fair market value of your house and how much you owe on your home mortgage and/or home equity loan. The equity you have in your home is an asset to the PROFILE schools.

I forgot to add there is Business/Farm supplement, should you own either.

Some schools do require additional institution-specific forms in addition to the FAFSA and Profile. As others have said, they’re all different, so no one can really tell you in general what the schools might ask for.
