Which schools would accept me?

I have a list of my dream colleges (Swarthmore, Ivies, Northwestern, Washington University in St. Louis, Vanderbilt, Emory, Rice, U Notre Dame, Boston), but I’m having a hard time coming up with my list of my match schools because I have no idea which schools would accept me…

Here are some facts about me:

TO CONSIDER: My family income is BARELY over the poverty line, and I work to support my family. Also, I am an immigrant.

Which schools would be considered a match for me? Also, does my list of reach schools look realistic & reasonable? ANY advice would be amazing. Thanks!

These colleges are listed in a Princeton Review sampling, “Great Schools for Mathematics Majors,” and generally have well-funded financial aid programs. Some are slightly less competitive for admissions compared to most of your current choices:

Carleton
Haverford
Hamilton
Grinnell
Reed

(Harvard and Rice from your group are included.)

What will be your senior year math class? Which Boston?

“Boston” - be it Boston U or Boston College - would be a low match.

The ones on this list with higher acceptance rates would be matches. Mt. Holyoke, Macalester, U Richmond, etc.

@merc81 thank you! I will be taking AP stats because I took Calculus BC as a junior, and I meant Boston College.

@nw2this I haven’t heard of those three colleges, but the list is super helpful! thank you!

@yikesyikesyikes ohhh I considered Boston College as a reach, but I guess I was wrong…

If you can ignore the reductive title, a list such as “The 610 Smartest Colleges” (Business Insider) will help you sort your choices by selectivity.

Will you be applying through QuestBridge?

While you are looking for matches, I think you will be an appealing candidate at many reach schools.

BC would be a high match, acceptance rate too low to be a solid match.

What about URochester and Tulane? Both would be high matches with good but not excellent financial aid, so they may or may not be affordable, but they seem like they fit into your list.

Concurring with the University of Rochester as fitting your current choices. UR also appears in the list referenced in post #1.

What colleges will accept you? Well over 800 in the United States:) you have to narrow down what you like, small or big, weather, etc. spend some time looking online for acceptance rates over 50% for safeties and look at pics and video
