I have two essays going for the EC common app 1000 character response.

1

talking about how I volunteered at a children summer camp/daycare, which normally would have gone against my non-expressive/tough personality.
would say something like ‘people thought i ate nails for breakfast’
working there taught me to be in touch with more gentle, emotional side
joy of working with kids, they looked up to me, brought back fond childhood memories
last sentence, something like: now i don’t eat nails for breakfast, sometimes stuck in teeth

2

story of perseverance/determination regarding HS sports team
odds were SERIOUSLY against me, coach even said I wouldn’t play
worked as manager, then finally made it onto team after 2 years of training
now on track for varsity spot, despite what coach said earlier

What do you think? What are they looking for? I like the humor in the first one, but feel the second one embodies who I am better and is a better story

Let me know asap please! Thank you :)
