K, so basically I’ve got some options, wondering what you all suggest.

I’ve got a 800/680/770 SAT I and no SAT IIs.

I could…

1.) Apply ED & retake the SAT I in Oct. to boost the math score into the 700s
2.) Apply ED with said scores and take a gamble on the SAT IIs in Oct.
3.) Apply RD and take the SAT I again in Oct. + SAT IIs in Nov.

So which option do you think would give me the best chance of admission? I’m shooting for Medill…

if ur 800 is in verbal, ur set for ED

if the 800 is math, still go for ED, i think ur good as well

It is verbal/math/writing. I’ve taken it twice now w/ 2 800s in verbal…so I’m not worried about my score there going down or anything.

Thanks for the opinions. Might talk to my GC as well.

no need to retake sat1…

just take the sat2s…

If Northwestern is clearly your first choice, then apply ED. I’d suggest taking SAT IIs, writing related.

If I end up taking the SAT IIs, I’ll be taking the English Lit, Bio, and US History ones…which seems kinda dumb to me, since I got 5s on all those AP tests and am self-reporting. I think all that + the essay + straight As in English might be beating them over the head. But whatever. Seems the consensus is to take the Sat IIs ^^.

If you got 5’s on those AP tests, then SAT IIs are probably unnecessary. Don’t worry about it.
And again, don’t hesitate to apply ED if it is definitely your first choice.

^Yeah, that’s what I thought…

You know what, maybe I should just e-mail the admissions office and ask how important it is to have the SAT IIs if you have AP scores or something.

I don’t think it’s very important. Most people I know at NU didn’t take them (but many did have APs).

you have no need to retake the SAT I again. but if you feel like it’s necessary, go ahead and do it. what everybody failed to mention is that NU doesn’t require SAT II’s for students applying early. it helps, but it won’t hurt you if you don’t take them and apply early anyways. and especially since you’re applying to medill, the only sat II tests that would help would be lit, history (us or world), or a foreign lang one. medill is heavy on having some journalistic experience and desire in the field, so it’s MUCH more important to have that in your app then to worry soley on SAT I & SAT II tests. take it from me, I did average to better than average on both sat and sat II tests (i applied regular to medill) but I got in anyways. i’m almost 100% certain that it was my journalism ec’s that got me in and not those average scores.

I didn’t take SATII’s and was admitted RD with a 2180. You should have little problem with a 2250, assuming everything else is fine.

what about SAT IIs with the school of communications? I think I am applying ED for theater and would not having SAT IIs hurt me? I have a 4.0 and a 32 as my top composite on the ACT.

your SAT score are fine, really good, actually. in re-taking them you would risk getting a lower score, and then realize that when you send your SAT scores to colleges, collegeboard sends ALL of the scores you received, you can’t just pick and choose your best ones to send, go with option 2 imo.
