So what should I pursue further? Should I try the SAT II, try to get better in both the ACT and SAT, or something else entirely? The admissions process for UMD say the SAT II is not a factor and I don’t know how well my other scores size up in order to be eligible for honors/scholars.

A 1450 is definitely good enough for honors, but your GPA also plays a major factor. Assuming you have at least a 3.8 UW and are taking pretty much the most difficult classes, you have a really good chance at honors. UMD won’t look at SAT II’s at all.

If you were looking at a different school that had similar standards as UMD, but used the writing section, then I’d say try and improve the writing score. From UMD’s website, it says that the middle 50% in honors had 30-33 on the ACT. I’ve always been under the impression that the majority of UMD students take SAT’s though, so idk if they only look at certain sections of the ACT, like they do on SAT’s. I don’t think the ACT score you have now will hurt you.
If you don’t get honors, then you’d definitely get scholars. The only thing that may hold you back from getting honors is the GPA.

GPA…I knew it would come back to hurt me… I have a 4.36 W and I’ve taken/will take 9 AP classes and 8 honors classes. Hopefully I can improve on my SAT and ACT scores when I take them one last time in the fall. Maybe, just maybe, I can get into honors :D…Hopefully that didn’t just jinx it…

Well your weighted GPA is still above the average for honors, assuming that’s out of 5, so I don’t think it would hurt you as much as if you took mostly honors and only a few AP’s.

Can you post the link where you are getting these stats? I’m scouring through the honors website and I can’t find much other than “there is no minimum SAT/ACT score.” Actually, I just found something for Gemstone. Average weighted GPA is 4.5 and average SAT score is 1459. facepalm

can anyone help me! i am in the IB program with a 3.28 unwaited and my SAT scores are low 1460…im just a bad test taker…would i have a chance to get into this college along with being a son/daughter of an alumni and being a minority along with doing all year round sports and being in clubs. one of which i plan to be a leader of next year…and if i do well on my esssay?? i am a good writer

^Spend some time studying the SAT. If you’re problem is that you are a “bad test taker,” just practice until you aren’t. Learn how to perform under pressure.

candid…are your SAT scores 1460/2400? What are your CR and M scores (which are the ones that count)? Your “legacy” status really doesn’t mean too much for UMD admissions, and with a 3.28 unweighted GPA, if you’re really talking 1460/2400, I think UMD would be a long shot for you.
