Which state's 529 Plan?

I want to use Vanguard funds in a 529 Plan and I notice that many states use Vanguard as their Investment Manager, with pretty much the same selection of funds to choose from. How can I narrow it down to one state? I don’t get a tax benefit in Texas anyway, so that doesn’t matter. Is there any independent evaluations of different state’s reputation, history, performance, etc.?

many states use TIAA-CREF for their 529 plans. I think (but am not sure) that TIAA-CREF’s fees are lower than others, also I think they are highly rated. Worth checking into…

I have used the Utah 529 plan which is highly rated, uses Vanguard, and has low fees. Savingforcollege dot com has a lot of info on 529 plans.

I used Fidelity’s 529 plan, which is NH. I don’t know what state they currently use. Were I to be resarching now, I’d talk to both Fidelity and Vanguard to get their recommendations.

I second Utah 529. We have Iowa 529 for S1 and Utah 529 for S2 and they both use Vanguard funds. Utah 529 is better than Iowa’s due to the lower fees,IMO.
