Ok, hi guys, im looking for some advice. You see im in grade 9 now, which would be a freshman in a U.S high school. So, i attend the best high school in my country, most say its the best in the caribbean region, however, i really want to get into Cornell but there are no Honours classes here, no AP classes, no ridic classes, basically nothing apart from the normal curriculumn. So i have decided to self-study for AP classes, so, i would like to hear which exams you think i could get atleast a 4 in without formal classes, i heard about Comparative Government, but i dont know about any other subject which could be self-studied for and still get good grades. Thanks in advance

P.S. I know its probably a litte early to start worrying about colleges but i just LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Cornell, and would do almost anything to get in :D

With the teachers I had, I pretty much self-studied for AP Gov & Politics, AP World History, and AP US History lol. It really depends on you, though, and what subjects you normally do well in.

AP psychology is super easy. if you are good at english, than the AP English Lang and Lit (practically self studied for both because i didnt learn anything in class). keep in mind that YOU DONT HAVE TO TAKE A MILLION APS TO GET IN! i only took 5 (even though my school literally offered every single one that collegeboard had available). whatever college you attend, they may not even accept any credits from AP tests taken, so keep that in mind. at cornell, you can receive some elective credits, but that all depends on your program/major/college. sometimes, the AP credit can only be transferred in the way that you get to skip the intro level course.

good luck! and dont start worrying about college now! you are a freshman…you have a looooong time before you have to start thinking about it! junior/senior year is already stressful when it comes to college stuff! enjoy your youth while you can! lol

Thanks for the responses, this question is very stupid but, How do i take it? Like online or have it mailed down or would i have to travel to the states to do it or something? I’m not sure if any school does it around here. Also, i wouldnt be stressing over APs, but i really wanna boost my chances of getting in. Also, i heard that you compete against others in your geographical area, so i guess this would set me apart from the crowd, while also showing that im determined and serious about my education. Sourcing the books and guides wouldn’t be hard. And , btw if it matters i wanna enroll in the hotel school. I know that they way experience very hard, but u can’t legally work in my country until ur 16, and thats only a summer job, and that’ll be my junior year, so any ideas what i can do until then?

If you’re taking a US History class sometime throughout high school, which is likely, I’d suggest taking the APUSH exam that year. Set up some exams during the years that you’ll take similar or corresponding classes so you aren’t completely on your own.

I dont think i will. The only part of American History we studied was the American Revolution, and, im dropping history next year, because in 10th grade your ony allowed to choose 9 subject the maximum, or in other words 8+ I.T. ( Information Technology). So, you can’t take 9 subjects without it. And we already have ateast compulsory subjects (English Language, English Literature, Mathematics) so i that leaves me with a choice of 6; and since i want to get into hotel school i will be taking the 3 business subjects (Economics, Principles of Accounts, Principles of Business) leaving me with a choice of 3. However, you will need a foreign language (IDK whether 2 do french or spanish, which do you think would be more helpful? So that leaves me with 1 subject and that subject has to be chemistry since according to the official website it states u need ateast 2 years of science, of which 1 should be chemistry, so that leaves me with no choice due to the requirements of Hotel School. other than to do some things outside of school. So, i guess that would give you guys some sort of insight as to which APs i could take. Thanks for all the responses, they’ve all been really helpful.

it really depends on YOU. what subjects come the easiest to you? those are the ones you should self-study for. or the ones that you’re actually interested in.

most prestigious ap’s? i don’t think they exist like that. i think it depends more on your academic interests. like if you want to be an english major at cornell, it’d look more prestigious to self-study for ap lang and ap lit than ap chem and ap calc. you know what i mean?
