i’m really interested in international business. i have so many programs i want to do during the summer, and they all seem like really good experiences, but which would look better on a college app? i can do one of three things this summer: PA school of global entrepreneurship, which used to be PA gov school, or PFEW (PA free entrepreneurship week) then GYLC (global youth leadership conference) or PFEW and CSLC (congressional student leadership conference). i am willing to pay the tuition for gov school but is it worth going if it’s not gov school anymore? is it still as prestigious? are PFEW, GYLC, or CYCL more prestigious/a better experience? any advice would be greatly appreciated!

How much is PFEW? CSLC and GYLC are ripoffs IMO. They send them out to just about everyone, are overpriced, and I’ve heard they don’t do a thing for college apps.

GYLC isn’t usually considered an “honor”, since attendance is really based solely on ability to pay. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great experience, but prestigious it’s not.

As for the others, I’m not sure.

Odd idea, I’ll admit. Why not pick the program that seems the most interesting and exciting to you? Stop worrying about prestige and how something will look. If you enjoy it and get something out of it, it adds to you and your genuine experience.

i would definitely recommend going to PFEW. i went to pfew last year and i loved it. the program helped me learn so much about business, and the whole experience was really interactive. we basically operated an imaginary business and competed with other “companies.” & the best part about it is that it was free!

In answer to your question, expatme, the programs all sounded like so much fun to me. I knew they would all be very worthwhile experiences, which is why I had so much trouble trying to choose one and decided on the prestigiousness of the program instead. To all of you, thanks for responding!

Even though you probably already picked the program depending on your own criteria, I hope you didn’t choose GYLC or CSLC.
Just in the NYTimes this weekend (I’m assuming today’s or yesterday’s), there was a whole article on these two programs being of many programs that are scams and do not boost up your college apps nor benefit you in any way. It was in the Education section of the Times.

I say attend which one you find most intersting/ enjoyable… either way I’m sure all would be well in educating you. I myself was going to apply to attend a summer program at University of Michigan- Ann Arbor for health care, though when hearing in my spanish class a 10th grade mentioning he’s basically been accepted and will be attending in the summer I decided not to bother. I don’t see such a program (with size) taking two students from the same school etc… plus it may be a little odd seeing a classmate of yours at same program.
