Which summer programs have/not have mandatory fun?

Lists?

With Mandatory Fun:
SSP
CTY
SIMUW

No Mandatory Fun:
MathCamp

Can anyone contribute to this list?

What exactly do you mean by mandatory fun? Like non-academic activities you’re forced to participate in, or just optional fun activities organized through the program?

non-academic activities you’re forced to participate in

CTY is notorious for this - there are periods of time where you are forced not to study

RSI.

But you will enjoy it.

;D.

some of the programs have mandatory sports participation. Not academic, but not sure if that counts in your definition of fun. And it sounds like you want it to be mandatory, and not just available? Why is that?

TIP is similar to CTY in that respect. We were NOT ALLOWED to bring our textbooks out of the room, period.

You have a ridiculous amount of free time at Brown. It’s like real college, except you’re taking fewer classes.

Ross Program has only a tiny number of group “fun” activities over eight weeks. It is mostly like MathCamp in allowing plenty of self-motivated study of math.

TASP has a lot of mandatory fun (which is sometimes mandatory “fun”), with the tradeoff of almost no free time. Personally, I prefer having a lot of free time, which is what you get at HSSP and similar programs.
