<p>I’m really struggling to decide which topic to write about for the EC essay. In addition to advice on which topic to use, I’d also like to know what the purpose of the EC essay is.</p>
<p>BTW, I finished high school last year and am taking a gap year right now. </p>
<p>Topic 1: A charity concert that I served as the music director for. I learn practice sessions, transcribing sheet music, and performed in the concert myself. </p>
<p>Problems: I did this in 10th grade, so its not the most relevant activity. I haven’t done any major music EC’s since that concert, so it might look bad.</p>
<p>Topic 2: My school’s business club, which I was president of. Lead my school to a 2nd place finish in a prestigious state-wide business competition (and won prize money). One of the teachers writing a rec for me sponsors this club, so I think it will look good to write about it.</p>
<p>Problems: The club only started in my senior year, and we didn’t do that much aside from competitions.</p>
<p>Topic 3: Internship at a financial analytics company in the summer of 11th grade. I learned a lot about finance and how it could be combined with math and computer science. Influenced my decision to pursue a career in financial engineering</p>
<p>Problems: I might use this as an introduction for one of my college essays. Not sure if it what is needed for the EC essay.</p>
<p>Topic 4: Tutoring at my local Kumon</p>
<p>Problem: Writing about this for one of my supplemental essays.</p>
