Which Two?

UCSD vs. UCI vs. UCD vs. Pepperdine vs. LMU vs. Cal Poly

Which Two Would You Choose Out Of This Group?

And Why?

I’ll just rank them all…

Pepperdine

UCSD

UC Irvine

UC Davis

Cal Poly

LMU

I would probably want to go to Pepperdine based on academics, atmosphere, and location.

UCSD would be next just based on overall reputation and location.

UCI and UCD is a tie…Irvine has a better location, but davis has better school spirit and athletics.

UCI and UCD

I would pick Pepperdine and UCD for atmosphere though at the same time I’m not crazy about west coast schools.

Academically:

UCSD

UCI/UCD/Cal Poly SLO

Pepperdine

Loyola Marymount University

For academics, UCSD is clearly the number one out of this group. UCI/UCD/Cal Poly SLO are next and each school has their specific strong departments. Next would be pepperdine, not academically particularly strong, but has some good departments and an awesome location in Malibu. LMU would be last academically.
Rankings also would put UCSD easilly on top, as the 7th best public university in the country, and 32nd overall. then UCI/UCD/Cal Poly SLO, with pepperdine closely behind davis and cal poly slo. uci is ranked 40th, i believe davis is ranked in the mid 40’s. Pepperdine is in the 50’s or 60’s i believe. Loyola is not ranked i believe. SLO, not being a phd granting university is not ranked as in the doctoral rankings.

Personally i like being by the beach and like good academics, so UCSD in la jolla would easilly be my top choice, wtih beach setting and by far the best academics and highest ranking in this group of schools. next would be uci, which borders newport beach, and then pepperdine which is in maibu.

Ive never really seen a school like UCSD compared to schools like loyola marymount. such a big difference in admission difficulty and rank. the type of student that attends ucsd is very different from those at lmu or pepperdine.

UCSD: 4.04 GPA 1307 sat
UCI/UCD: 3.8 GPA 1210 sat
Cal Poly SLO: 3.7 1210 sat

I believe pepperdine has average applicant admit stats around a 3.6 or 3.7 and i would imagine LMU would be well below that. There is just such a large gap between the top school in this group, ucsd, and the bottom school in the group, lmu, its a very strange comparison. if you are interested in private schools, and are interested in schools like ucsd and ucla, you should consider also consider usc, which is more in line with ucsd and ucla than lmu or pepperdine.
