I recently got into Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and I was wondering which UC it would be equivalent to Davis?

Bump! I want to know this also!

Yes, it’s on par with the mid tier UCs for any majors-Davis, Irvine, SB.

Actually, Cal Poly is very different from any UC. It is a hands on learn by doing institution. I would not venture to compare Cal Poly and the UC’s as equals as the teaching methodology and approach is completely different. Instead, how about taking a different route. Compare Cal Poly to Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, NY Poly, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Rose Hulman, Cooper Union, etc. Compare apples to apples.

By the way, my kid chose Cal Poly engineering over 5 UC’s that he applied and got accepted to. These included UCLA, UCSD, UCI (Honors), UCSB and UCSC (scholarship).

Note that Cal Poly SLO’s distribution of majors is very different from that of the UCs:

25% engineering
14% agriculture
13% business and marketing
7% architecture
5% parks and recreation
4% social sciences
4% biological sciences

In comparison, social sciences and biological sciences (and psychology, which is reported separately in the common data sets) tend to be much bigger at UCs, while the more pre-professional majors are less common. So the student’s choice of major may well be a big factor in whether s/he matches up better to Cal Poly SLO or one of the UCs.

I would say acceptance-rate wise Cal Poly is similar to UC Santa Barbara but it completely depends on major… for example a less than stellar applicant could be accepted for soil science or wine studies where a 4.0 aspiring engineer could be rejected.
