Which UC should I TAG to?

My GPA is currently 3.02, and I have 4 W’s.

I’m applying as a Bio Major for Fall '16, I’ve completed all pre reqs except the classes I’m taking right now and for next semester. The classes I’m taking now are General Biology 1, Generel Chemistry II, and I’m going to take Calculus 1, General Biology II, and O-chem next semester, then Calculus II in the summer.

I want to apply to UCSC, UC Davis, UCSB, UCSD. UC Irvine, but I’m learning more towards either UCSC or UCD if I don’t get accepted to the others.

Which campus would be more of a safer bet to TAG to and that I would most likely to be admitted to?

Your GPA is pretty low, but based on GPA alone, your options are UC Santa Cruz or Merced.

The only UC’s you can TAG with your 3.02 GPA are UC Merced/Riverside and Santa Cruz. You need a 3.2 for UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara while UC Irvine requires a 3.4.

See attached link for the TAG matrix:

Also, concerning UC Santa Cruz, they have specific requirements for your major concerning TAG:

Requirements for the major include the following:

Minimum grade of C (2.0) in a course articulated to UCSC’s introductory biology courses, BIOL 20A and BIOE 20C or BIOE 20B. (An AP Biology score of 5 can be substituted for BIOL 20A and BIOE 20B.)

Minimum grade of C (2.0) in a course articulated to UCSC’s introductory chemistry course sequence of CHEM 1A and CHEM 1B (complete chemistry series, 1A, 1B, 1C recommended). An AP Chemistry score of 5 can be substituted for CHEM 1A.

Minimum grade of C (2.0) in a course articulated to UCSC’s MATH 11A or MATH 19A or AMS 15A*. (An AP Calculus AB score of 4 or 5, or an AP Calculus BC score of 3, 4, or 5, can be substituted for MATH 11A or Math 19A.) *Note: Students who have not yet completed a course in calculus may still qualify for the Biology B.A. major.

Minimum grade point average of 2.0 in the above major-preparatory courses.

At the time of submitting the TAG application, a student must have completed at least one biology course from the list above (#1) and one chemistry course from the list above (#2) with minimum grades of C (2.0), or applicable AP exam credit (listed above). All other course requirements must be listed as either in-progress or planned on the TAG application, showing completion no later than the end of the spring 2016 term.

While not required for selection, junior-level transfer students are strongly encouraged to have completed the calculus series: MATH 11B, MATH 19B, or AMS 15B and the complete biology series (20A, 20B, and 20C) for their intended major prior to enrolling at UCSC.
