My EFC is 0, and I live in Portland, OR but I have family in Irvine, CA that I can live with. I live in Oregon but my mom lives in California, so I am considered a resident at many CA universities. U of O has PathwayOregon which states that if I have a low EFC, then they’ll pay for all my tuition. I also missed the UCI deadline so I might just go to a junior college and then go there while living with my family. UCI has a Blue and Gold Oppurtunity Plan, which states that they can pay for all tuition and fees. Chapman is 10 miles away from my family’s house, and I don’t have a car yet but I’m fine with biking for now. Pepperdine is really expensive and idk if they have that much aid.
Which schools did you actually apply to?
Did you already apply for the Calgrant? That deadline was March 2.
Are you a HS senior now?
I applied to all of these universities stated except UCI and ivc
I didn’t apply to CalGrant but applied to OSAC… I never heard of CalGrant but I think it seems really helpful. I am a senior
Don’t you have to graduate from a Calif high school to qualify for a Cal Grant or the Blue and Gold Plan?
^ I thought so.
I could also go to a community college for a year and establish residency but anyway my mom is a Cali resident so I’m a “condit” or a resident for college purposes
Can you make this calculation for each university’s you’ve been admitted to:
(tuition + fees + transportation costs) - (scholarships, grants) =?
Do not subtract any loan and only count what’s written on your financial aid package.
Your Oregon grant doesn’t carry to CA, you have to use it in OR. And since you didn’t graduate from a CA high school, you’re not eligible for CA grants for CA high school graduates. (You could, of course, not graduate in Oregon and transfer NOW to a CA high school, but I’m not sure you would graduate in June then.)
You can’t establish residency by attending college in CA for a year. You have to have a parent who lives there and pays taxes there (or graduate from a HS there).
