Which way to go - at home or away?

Our daughter has been accepted to the following schools some of which are offering scholarships:

Long Island University/C.W. Post - honors program partial scholarship
Hofstra University - partial scholarship
Marist College - partial scholarship
Sacred Heart University
Stonehill College
SUNY - Brockport

She is also waiting for responses from SUNY - Geneseo and SUNY - Binghamton. C.W. Post has by far offered the most scholarship money and we live very close by the school. However, I think Geneseo and Binghamton are stronger schools academically. We’re curious as to getting any feedback on which school she should ultimately select.

It would be sad for parents to stay away from their children. But if you don’t mind that part, I suggest that you should send your daughter away because dorming is one factor that bring full college experience.

Out of you list I would say Marist and Geneseo (no info about Sacred heart and stonehill). Birmingham is a good school but it’s big - your D will get less personal attention (from teachers).

I don’t suggest Long Island and Hofstra coz i heard lots of bad thing about them.

jellyya…what ‘bad’ things have you heard about Hofstra. Wondering b/c it’s on my list to apply to in the Fall. TY

hum… about Hofstra… I’ve heard that its academic is not good (even though some places say it’s on the rise). Many people say that students come to Hofstra just to be near NYC and many of them just care about party and not study. I was considering applying Hofstra but completely changed my mind when I saw one video of Hofstra party in Youtube. I just feel that they are not types of people I wanna spend my 4 years with so I just decided to turned down Hofstra.

I dont think one video of “partying at Hofstra” should really turn you off to a school. All schools will have their share of partying… i’m even sure top ranked schools such as Harvard will have even more partying than a school like Hofstra lol

well, it really does turn me off to Hosftra… no matter what you think.

What about all the other partying videos that have been recorded and never uploaded to the internet from ALL the Ivys?

What about all those videos? Just because you’ve never seen a partying video from certain school says nothing to how many parties are going down this very night at that school.

I don’t think you’re thinking at all, really. =</p>

^ seems like you’re not thinking at all either, since this thread is old and i’m guessing the OP is already set on a school by now.
