I’ve recently been accepted into a program at Oxford University studying law and philosophy and a social justice program at UPenn.
Which program do i chose? I have no idea but i have a while to decide.
Neither will look better on your college apps.
To paraphrase the dean of admissions at Princeton, ‘all those programs tell us is that you have parents who can afford it’. She went on to say that they want to know that you have done something - anything- with your summer, but what matters is what you gained from the experience and what you are going to do with whatever you gained. She cited an applicant who wrote an essay about her summer job babysitting- nothing dramatic happened, no saving the baby’s life or anything- just a thoughtful essay about choices. She is now a junior at Princeton.
So, go for the program that speaks to you more, that links in best with who you are and where you are going- or that looks like the most fun - that is as valid a criteria as any.
